Murphy's Life

When Murphy's cancer recurred in late 2001, I wanted to make her a quilt. But I definitely did not want it to be an illness quilt, so I decided to quilt into it images from Murphy's life. There is a different image quilted in each of the blue and brown blocks. Unfortunately, my feeble skills with a camera does not allow you to see what the images are from this photo. If you know Murphy, you will just have to fill in the blanks yourself.

The fabric in this quilt was - with one exception - brought back to me from Japan by my parents.

Hand Dyed Bars and Geese

In the late 1990s, Casey - an incredibly talented, creative, and artistic friend from my Atlanta guild - hosted a series of fabric dying parties in her yard. Not only did we learn a lot about dying fabric but, more importantly, we ended up with a bunch of lovely fabrics. Mine are showcased in this quilt which was quilted with complementary colors of pearl cotton.

A Red Heart for Love

When my friends Ben and Gabriella got married in New Orleans, we were unfortunately not able to go. But next time they came to visit I gave them this quilt I had made for their wedding. The picture does not completely do it justice because the lighting is so poor, but it is a big heart made up of rail fence blocks in all red fabrics. I bought almost all of the fabrics on a great field trip to Mary Jo's, and having not even tried to figure out how much I needed of each print, I ended up with way too much. So I've had a very well supplied red stash over the years.

Jens' and Anna's Baby Quilts

Among the many, many baby quilts I have made are, of course, quilts for my nieces and nephews. The first ones were for Jens (below) and Anna (above), children of my sister Vibeke and Klaus.

Mads and Lotte's Quilt

My brother Mads and my sister-in-law Lotte were married on June 3, 1995. I made this quilt for them as a wedding present, however, it was not finished until 1997. I found the pattern in a book, I think it might've been called "Farmer's Daughter." In addition to various prints, I used a lot of my self-dyed turquoise and bluish fabrics. I hand pieced and quilted it.
